#84 - Jukola Recap: Ankle-Biters & Rain-Soaked Survival

Episode 84 is the full Jukola 2026 recap – the boys relive the absolute chaos of the first leg (trampling, pushing, falling in the green, and one very public 69), share their personal race stories, club results, and how they somehow survived the rain. We also settle the predictions scoreboard (some of us did not cover ourselves in glory) and read the latest listener mail.

#83 - 67% of a Jukola Preview

The boys try really hard to do a Jukola preview episode but keep getting distracted. Stonehenge, Danish culture, niche facts - all these things take time away from discussing the World's largest orienteering relay. Ralph has run selection races for World Champs, and had to travel through Milton Keynes both ways. Magnus has been trying to run orienteering without a map. Tim has a new job. There is also the usual prediction challenge. Tune in to find out how badly we rate your favourite club's chances

#82 – Sprint World Cup Debrief Sweden

Episode 82 is the full World Cup debrief from Sweden – Tim and Magnus break down the knockout, individual sprint and relay, artificial barriers galore, rat-orientering, and the strong Danish showing. Joseph Lynch (Team New Zealand, currently staying with Tim) pops in for a quick chat at the end about his trip, Jukola plans and more.

#81 – World Cup Weekend Loading

Episode 81 is a proper sweaty one – Ralph is literally sweat-maxing in the intro while the boys catch up on World Cup prep, Danish Champs chaos, Magnus’ 420-metre-to-start 5K heroics, and Tim plugging New Zealand hard. We get some honest life updates, sprint talk, coaching opportunities in Christchurch, and the usual banter. World Cup weekend loading.

#80 - Miika Kirmula: The Winning Kirmula

Episode 80 is a special one: Miika Kirmula (fresh Tiomila winner with Kalevan Rasti) joins Tim and Magnus for a proper chat about his career, fishing stories, changing hairstyles, his Finnish nickname, injuries, and what it really takes to win the big relay. Ralph crashes the recording straight after his sprint race (his apartment now fully cling-filmed by the Bækkelaget juniors in classic brain-rot revenge) and we get the usual outfit roasts, standing-desk chaos, and extended apology section.

#79 – Tiomila 2026 Recap

Episode 79 is the big Tiomila debrief – sleep-deprived chaos, brain rot pranks, long night train stories, and our predictions finally settled once and for all. We evaluate our own club results, read out the listener abuse, get official World Cup organiser feedback on the mapping drama, and Magnus turns up in full Farum Tisvilde gear to bully everyone into matching orienteering outfits. Apologies section is extra long this week. Tiomila hangover complete.

#78 - It Is 10mila Week

Episode 78 is our full Tiomila predictions special. Tim and Magnus might be sharing the exact same leg (but what about Ralph?), and we finally drop our proper homework: men’s & women’s top 10s, leg-by-leg chat, new format, and a points system built so Magnus can lose fair and square. We roast the mixed Tranås terrain, club power shifts and all the hot takes. Listener predictions open – send yours in, we’ll roast the results later. Tiomila weekend is here. Good luck out there!

#77 – Earthquakes, Rocks & The World Cup

Episode 77 is fresh off the World Cup weekend in Switzerland, where the boys were (once again) nowhere near the start line. Ralph smashed a local middle distance for his first win of the season and Tim passed his forest fitness test ahead of Tiomila. We break down the sprint, relay and knockout races, debate the mapping, artificial barriers, cars in the area, and the great Kasper Fosser hedge-jump controversy. There’s also safety glasses, headbands, ankle braces, one very nerdy rock collection, and Ralph’s first-ever earthquake.

#76 – The World Cup We’re Not Running

Episode 76 lands just in time for the first World Cup of the year… which none of us are running. Ralph’s back from Halden, Tim’s survived his first mountain bike race (powered mostly by confusion and caffeine gels), and Magnus has tackled a 44-control monster. We get into messy relays, sprint rule changes, and whether hiding course details is genius or chaos. Plus: pickles at the finish line, disappearing shoes in marshes, and the ongoing debate that really matters — how to eat a scone.

#75 - Ralph Returns for Easter Chaos

Ralph is back, which means normal service resumes: immediate abuse, strong opinions, and slightly more structure than last time. We get into a packed weekend of racing at JK and Swedish League, with snow, mud, mispunches, blocked toilets, and Tim somehow making a sprint podium while barely running. Magnus continues his fight against fake Strava athletes and adds arm wrestling to his increasingly confusing training plan. Some real orienteering, some public chaos, and a very important debate about scones.

#74 - Strava Fraud and Other Career Options

Episode 74 and we immediately lose control… mainly because Ralph isn’t here. Tim and Magnus try to run a serious podcast but instead end up analysing Ralph’s Italian results and debating whether he’s actually just still lost. There’s a full breakdown of Magnus’ Danish Night Champs disaster, Tim’s slow transition into becoming a cyclist, and a completely unnecessary investigation into fake Strava activities that somehow turns into a business idea. On top of that, Tim is still stuck in cross-training purgatory, Magnus is planning a Hyrox domination (apparently), and we answer one of life’s biggest dilemmas: how are you actually supposed to listen to a podcast?

#73 - Goutta Be Kidding Me

Episode 73 is what happens when the boys spend a weekend in Halland and immediately start comparing split times like it means anything in March. Magnus claims progress because his back now lets him move closer to a normal person again, Ralph claims he was only out for a long run, and Tim returns with a diagnosis that makes him sound about 78 years old. We get into sand dunes, nearby controls, and whether Magnus is finally learning to run in a straight line. On top of that, Tim explains his gout-era comeback plan, Ralph prepares for Italy, and we somehow end up discussing Strava etiquette, headcams, dogs in the forest, and who’s an hyper-unc. There is a bonus at the end of the episode where we talk to Vova from the IOF Young Leaders Academy. Is this something that you would be interested in joining, listen to find out how!

#72 - Emil Wingstedt: Built Different

Episode 72 and we’ve finally got the first guest of the year for you! Emil Wingstedt joins us to talk about winning World Championships, dominating European sprints, and why coaching Ralph might be the greatest challenge of his career. From four consecutive European sprint titles to life as a national coach (and occasional IOF outlaw), Emil shares how he went from a decent junior to one of the best orienteers of his era. We dive into training philosophy, brutal interval blocks, relay pressure, sprint evolution, and why committing fully to your own path matters more than copying someone else’s. There’s also talk of embargo breaches, control-moving at championships, near-misses in Århus, and the fine art of packing Ralph’s race bag.

#71 – Business as Usual

Episode 71 and the boys are finally back together, attempting to recap what we’ve actually been up to lately. Tim is playing it smart with his injury and sticking to shorter races, Magnus is battling winter and Ralph has invested in some very serious-looking ankle braces in the name of “performance”. Matching outfits were involved for reasons still unclear. Somewhere between training updates and life admin we talk actual orienteering, drift into Winter Olympics chat, and compare how badly our nations are doing. There are a few small controversies, the usual apologies, and Ralph getting ready for Portugal O Meeting — hoping everything holds together this time.

#70 - But Why?

Episode 70 marks the return after a suspiciously long break. New year, big promises: structure, regular releases — all said confidently before immediately talking over each other. We apologise for disappearing, announce a bold new plan, and realise mid-episode that it might already be failing. Tim finally reveals the unresolved cliffhanger from last year: 25 days into 2026 and he still hasn’t run. Injuries, creative definitions of “training,” and whether the year really counts yet are all debated. We look back at last season’s predictions, make fresh ones for 2026, and roll straight into resolutions we probably won’t keep. The apology section makes an inevitable return, loose ends get tied up, and Orienteer Pod is officially back.

#69 - Episode 69

Episode 69 somehow became exactly what it was always destined to be: long, rambling, and only loosely about orienteering. Magnus is finally back online after disappearing to altitude camp in Uganda, where “easy runs” apparently mean getting dropped by half-marathon world record holders and learning life lessons over chai, chapati and Ludo. Tim is busy limping between the sofa, the treadmill and the X-ray department, while insisting everything is totally fine. Ralph mostly tries to keep the conversation on track and fails. We cover Park World Tour races in China, not the orienteering but whether Yannick Michels could beat 500 schoolchildren in a fight or a relay. We hype up the annual 3x3km Christmas Challenge, will any of the boys even start the session? There’s also European XC chat, questionable footwear choices, altitude bragging, Strava chaos and no guests.

#68 - Rage Bait

This episode goes fully off-script. Magnus rage baits Ralph by appearing in Uganda with no warning, Ralph insists his rep counting was correct (it wasn’t), and Tim posts a respectable 10K and pretends it’s no big deal. Somewhere between Squadrats, gold-labelled races, wolves, lap-button etiquette and arguing about numbers, we completely lose control of the episode.

#67 – We’ve Lost Count Again

Episode 67 arrives with peak winter energy: low motivation, high confusion, and plenty of unnecessary opinions. Rep counts are getting out of hand, Magnus has downloaded yet another pointless app, Ralph is still recovering from the abuse he took last episode while Tim struggles with old man injuries and heavy leaves.. We catch up on the chaos, question our own training choices, give interior design tips, and pretend we know what we’re doing as the dark months settle in.

#66 – The Rep Count Conspiracy

The boys gang up on Ralph for running a ridiculous number of reps — 18 this time — of his favourite session. Somehow it’s totally fine for Tim to have 35 seconds of recovery though, because that’s “normal”. Magnus escapes any training-based abuse after (once again) deleting Strava right after maybe winning the October mileage challenge. We get nostalgic for old-school orienteering: where are the results boards and hand-drawn courses? Has the march of technology destroyed the sacred art of comparing splits with your mates? Meanwhile, Tim smashed a trail race (though not quite as much as Eef van Dongen), Ralph’s been getting rained on in the UK and training with the national team, and we finally read some words from Silvan Ullmann — the course setter behind the Swiss World Cup Knock-Out sprint.

#65 - Yapa Yapa Yapa

Closing out the international orienteering year with an episode filled with just pure yappage. Tim has been at 25manna, but can't remember which teams got disqualified. Magnus has made a comeback on Strava topping the leaderboards. Where has this sudden burst of motivation come from and will Garmin vs Strava cause problems? Ralph brings old man energy as usual as he complains about even more things. Also in the episode, the usual apology section, Ralph presents the UK, JEC results, and we clear up some points from last episode.

#64 – World Cup Final 2025: The Season Ends, the Suffering Continues

World Cup Final in Uster — the last big showdown of the season. Ralph pulls off a 360 but fails the 90, Tim somehow beats us both, and Magnus keeps searching for that elusive breakthrough. #63 - 6cm is very long

In this episode, the boys are preparing for the final round of the World Cup in Uster, Switzerland. Magnus has been forest orienteering with an added challenge, and Ralph is spoiling for a fight with the Swiss team.

#62 - EOC: Tim is looking for another woman

This episode is all about debriefing the Sprint European Championships in Belgium. From the chaos of a 50% disqualification rate in the sprint relay to the all-important question of who could actually beat Natalia Gemperle in an arm wrestle, we’ve got it covered. We also dive into our own EOC experiences: Tim didn’t even make it to all the start lines, Magnus collected more “thanks for coming” treatment in the qualifiers, and Ralph… well, Ralph couldn’t stop ranting about perceived injustices.

#61 – Why Sprint Orienteering Will Ruin Your Life

The boys are back with a deep dive into the one discipline that ruins friendships and makes grown men cry: sprint orienteering. #59 – The Denmark Apartment Tapes (Leaked)

Two weeks ago, all three of us were in the same room in Denmark, talking O-Ringen, the World Games, and the end of sprint camp. We recorded gold. Pure, unfiltered podcast magic. Then we… didn’t release it. Now Tim’s missing, Magnus and Ralph are winging it with a half-baked recap of Belgium’s EOC test races before awkwardly tacking on that “lost” episode at the end. Think of it as time-travel podcasting — if time-travel also involved bad editing and questionable life choices.

The boys are back for a (late) post-WOC debrief and other shenanigans. Crashing Magnus´ parents house and recording together in person for the first time went just as well as you’d expect, with Magnus deleting 2 hours of recording. More apologies are made before diving into all the drama from the WOC middle, long, and relay. We discuss the promotion/relegation, and Tim celebrates his forest PB. Statman Ralph fires off some WOC facts. Plus, a quick look at EYOC – who shined in the long, sprint, and relay?

#57 - From Italy to Finland: Unpacking JWOC and Previewing WOC

As the boys are scattered across three time zones, it's a miracle this episode even got made. Magnus wins the Danish KO Champs (possibly after visiting the embargo?), Ralph defends his 17:30 5km, and Tim fears his WOC races will end up on @orienteeringmistakes. With a hectic summer race schedule, we try to unpack the chaos of JWOC—just wrapped up in Italy—while also looking ahead to WOC, which starts tomorrow. It’s been thrilling to follow the rise of future orienteering stars, and now we turn our attention to the biggest races of the year in Finland.

Then it's off to Idre World Cup, where two tired boys sit in a Skoda, wondering what the Swedes were doing in the embargo... The night was long, the drama was longer. We have a connoisseur's collection of clips to help you comprehend the chaos. Magnus has been hunting for Danish forests that look like Idre. Ralph is preparing for Mikkeli, but his Jukola is going to look a little bit different from normal. #53 - Definitely Bracass

Bracass energy only. Isn’t that kind of the whole point of Orienteer Pod? Not too serious, not too credible — but maybe a few laughs. Episode 53 delivers exactly that. Magnus visits Ralph and questions his domestic habits. There’s banana eating, broken French arms, and broken Kiwi ankles, as Tim finds out the hard way that recovering from one injury just means that you are closer to the next one. We chat about the French Bracass Jukola team, debate whether to save more Jukola talk for a proper pre-race show, and send out some long-overdue apologies. Meanwhile, Miloš Nykodým once again finds himself in a standoff with a stick. Plus: receding hairlines, tricky dilemmas, weird things to find while orienteering — and much more.

#52 - Contourless and Clueless

Magnus checks in after a busy few weeks—having taken part in the Danish Sprint Champs, moved to Bøler, and now turning his focus to the upcoming WOC selection races in Norway. Tim has run a race, and together they unpack the recent Swedish selection races, which took place in Finland and left us with more questions than answers. There's a first look at Jukola rumours, an apology to Denseln for overlooking their impressive 2011 result. We also ask the big terrain question: is Denmark home to the flattest forest orienteering map on Earth? And if not, where is? With half-metre contours now being counted, the competition is tight. All that, plus national sprint relays in Denmark and Norway, and early takes on what’s shaping up to be an exciting summer season.

This episode has high nonsense content and low orienteering relevance. The boys have an optimistic status update; Ralph has injured himself on purpose, Magnus with the sniffles and Tim limping around. We discuss all the polls that have been on Instagram. There is a song review, orienteers have been doing cross country and Park World Tour went to China. The quiz makes a return leading to perfectly predictable arguments. The dilemma is cold weather related, will fashion or practicality win?
